Google Business Profile Setup Guide for Nepal

Google Business Profile Setup Guide for Nepal

When someone searches your business name - or "your service near me" - the box that appears on the right of Google (and in Maps) is your Google Business Profile. It is free, it drives calls and visits directly, and most Nepali businesses either do not have one or abandoned it half-filled. This guide walks through setup and the optimization steps that actually move rankings.

Step 1: Claim or Create Your Profile

Go to business.google.com and sign in with a company Google account (not a personal one that leaves with an employee - this mistake causes real pain later). Search for your business name first: a profile may already exist, auto-generated from map data. If so, claim it rather than creating a duplicate.

Step 2: Get Verified

Google must confirm you actually control the business. In Nepal, verification is typically offered by video call or video recording - you will show your signboard, premises, and something proving operations (equipment, stock, staff at work). Postcards are rare here now. Tips that speed approval:

  • Match the profile name to your actual signboard exactly - creative keyword-stuffed names get rejected or suspended.
  • Record in daylight with the signage clearly readable.
  • Have your registration documents handy in case documentation verification is offered instead.

Step 3: Complete Every Section Properly

SectionWhat good looks like
CategoriesOne precise primary category + relevant secondaries. This choice heavily influences which searches show you.
HoursAccurate, including holidays - wrong hours generate angry reviews.
Phone & websiteA number someone answers, and your site (or a service page, not just the homepage).
Services/menuList every service with descriptions and prices where possible.
Description750 characters using the words customers search - naturally, not stuffed.
PhotosReal premises, team, and work - 10+ minimum. Profiles with real photos get dramatically more clicks than logo-only ones.

Step 4: The Optimization Most Businesses Skip

  • Post weekly. Offers, updates, and photos signal an active business - activity correlates with ranking.
  • Answer the Q&A section. Anyone can ask (and anyone can answer - including competitors). Seed it with your real FAQs and monitor it.
  • Add products/services with photos. These appear directly in your profile and searches.
  • Keep NAP consistency. Your name, address, and phone must match across your website, Facebook, and directories - inconsistency erodes ranking trust. (This is the citation work in our local SEO service.)

Step 5: Build a Review Engine

Reviews are the strongest local ranking lever and the first thing customers read:

  1. Get your review link (Profile → "Ask for reviews") and shorten it.
  2. Ask at the moment of satisfaction - after delivery, after the fix, after the thank-you. WhatsApp the link; make it a one-tap action.
  3. Reply to every review, good and bad, professionally. Responses are public marketing.
  4. Never buy reviews - Google's detection is good, and the penalty (suspension) costs everything.
Realistic expectations: a complete, active, well-reviewed profile typically starts showing measurable map-pack movement in 4-8 weeks. It compounds - every review and post is a brick.

Frequently asked questions

My verification keeps failing. Why? Usually: name mismatch with signage, blurry video, or a service-area business claiming a physical storefront. Fix the mismatch and retry - or ask us; we handle stubborn verifications regularly.

I serve customers at their location, not mine. Can I still have a profile? Yes - set it up as a service-area business, hide the address, and define your coverage cities.
